site-specific works   >   Saltonstall Waterfalls

2012; acrylic on paper; 136 x 300 inches.

I made this roughly 11-by-25-foot piece for a wall in my studio at the Saltonstall Foundation, located outside Ithaca, New York, a region known for its numerous gorges and waterfalls. After visiting a few of them, I was inspired to integrate the idea of the waterfall with the studio wall’s rather awkward shape, formed by the room’s peaked ceiling, two doors, and various mechanical panels.
