Paintings > Equivalents

These roughly 5×3-foot acrylic-on-paper paintings were made

for a 2011 exhibition in Lake George, New York.

While preparing for the show, I learned that Alfred Stieglitz’s family home was on Lake George, where he made his

images of clouds, named Equivalents.

They are generally considered the first

intentionally abstract photographs.

My paintings were inspired by Stieglitz’s evocative photos,

using natural patterns and forms to suggest

emotional or psychological states.
