public art > To follow the Way is to cherish nature, To follow the Way is to cherish life
2024; printed vinyl mesh; 4 x 180 feet
A commission for the NYC DOT Arts department.
This design aimed to facilitate a healthier visual landscape at the site (under the Brooklyn Bridge in Manhattan) characterized by enormous structures of social and spatial control.
Featuring tree fragments, the design evokes the myriad energies of nature, amid the sensory density of built geometry in the urban environment, to remind us of ever-present transformation and the reality that trees and plants are essential for all of us.
“To ease the hurt, plant more trees, and exhale.
With the trees, we can find delight, solace, dignity, and resilience.”
